What Being “Invisible” On Google Really Costs You

When a homeowner needs to find a company or they don’t pull out the yellow pages, they go to Google.

Whether it’s a leaking roof, a busted pipe, or they don't like how their driveway is sinking.

That’s why being at the top matters. It’s a strong online foundation for your company.

Contractors who are in the top 3 see more qualified leads, higher-value projects, and sustainable business growth.

Unlike paid ads that stop working the moment you stop paying, good SEO gets you to the top.

And then you stay there for weeks, months, even years.

“This stuff doesn’t work for my business”

If you’re not in the top 3, this will be very useful for your business.

When Google decides where to rank a business, it looks at 3main factors.

  • Your website

  • Your Google business profile

  • Your reviews

There’re over 4,000 different services that Google offers to businesses. The services section is probably the most important part of your google profile. It’s good to have one main category you want to rank for.

If you’re a general contractor, that specializes in remodels, categories like “Bathroom remodel” or “Kitchen remodel” would be perfect. This helps google understand exactly what you do.

Reviews are the new word-of-mouth. Eighty-two percent of customers believe that reviews on sites are helpful for their search, and Google uses review count and rating for ranking local search results.

Responding to reviews, both positive and negative, is equally important. Thoughtful responses show potential clients that you are engaged, professional, and care about customer satisfaction.

This active engagement helps build trust and signals to Google that your business is legitimate and customer focused.

Make it easy for Google.

Consistency across all your website pages matter. Having your name, address, and a phone number is the most important. Inconsistencies can confuse search engines and hurt your ranking.

Seventy three percent of users make judgments about a company's credibility based on its website design. That's a sobering statistic that highlights just how crucial your online presence is.

When someone lands on your site at 11 PM because their water heater just burst, they need to immediately feel confident that you're the right contractor for the job.

Here comes all the technical stuff. Every service you offer deserves its own dedicated page. Don't just lump "plumbing, electrical, and HVAC" together on one page. Create separate, detailed pages for each service.

Your service pages should dive into what you offer. Your “Kitchen remodeling” page shouldn’t just say “kitchens”, you should showcase the process and highlight your expertise and address some of the common questions homeowners have about the service.

A service area page is equally as important. A page showing you work in downtown Wilmington will perform better than a generic page that says you “serve the Wilmington area”.

What To Do Now?

Whether you're a roofing company in Wilmington, a general contractor in the in state of a NC, the principles remain the same. Your expertise deserves to be found by the clients who need it most.

We help business owners like you get to the top 3 in Google in your area. When people look for your service, they find... YOU. As they should.
