When you think about construction, the first thing that might come to mind is the

physical labor of building structures.

However, construction marketing is another crucial aspect that significantly contributes to the success of construction businesses.

With the right strategies in place, construction companies can stand out in a crowded market, attract new clients and retain existing ones.

It's about communicating your company's strengths and demonstrating why your services are superior to competitors.

Many construction companies I’ve spoken with tend to shy away from online marketing. They opt for the more traditional, tried-and-tested advertising strategies like newspaper ads, billboards, and even local TV spots.

There are two issues that usually arise when doing “traditional” advertising:

  1. They're  terribly expensive. If you have a budget of $5,000+ for ads alone, go for it.

  2. Most of your clients you're trying to reach are scrolling social media during the Ads on television.

Owners of construction companies may think that brand building and marketing have no place in their strategy.

But it’s difficult to overlook the fact that brand building is essential for any business, especially those that want to set themselves apart from their competitors.

There are heaps of construction companies that potential clients can choose to work with.

It’s important to get the competitive edge when you can.

Digital Word Of Mouth

According to Statista, there are 3.96 billion (2022) social media users worldwide, and that number is projected to reach an estimated 4.41 billion by the end of this year.

Just think of the pairs of eyes that can be on your construction business if you’re on these social media channels.

In the past, word-of-mouth marketing happened when a satisfied customer told their friends and family about their experience with a company.

Seeing that seal of approval or recommendation from someone you trust can be a deciding factor in making a purchase.

This remains a very powerful marketing tool for businesses.

And thanks to the internet, word-of-mouth marketing is now more amplified, as customers are likely to post about their experiences on social media or leave online reviews.

But content isn’t just about words and images; it’s about creating a seamless flow that keeps your audience engaged and wanting more.

For example, let's say you're planning to get started on Facebook.

You want to get the word out about your construction company and how well the projects you're building turn out. If your goal is getting the word out, you shouldn't be measuring clicks.

Yes, getting clicks and visitors to your site from your Facebook page is awesome, but it's not an accurate measurement of your awareness goal. Instead, you'd want to measure impressions and views.

How many people are seeing your posts? Are they getting shared? The more visibility you get, the closer you're coming to reaching that awareness goal.

All that sounds nice, but awareness means absolutely nothing if it doesn't bring you more clients and money.

Crafting An RSO

RSO= Rock. Solid. Offer.

I saw a documentary recently about a thing called ‘blast fishing’ or ‘dynamite fishing’. Some people (I believe it was in Tanzania) figured out that fishing was a whole lot easier if you just chucked a stick of dynamite into the water.

Dynamite goes off, fish get killed or dazed by the blast, you just scoop them up. No need for fishing lines or bait or any of that stuff.

That’s what an RSO will do for you in your market.

Not only will your ideal clients be magnetically attracted to your message, if your offer is solid you’ll also attract the people that are thinking about it, playing with the idea, considering it.

So you’ll scoop up ALL the fish.

What Makes You Special

Take a moment and think about what sets you apart from other contractors in the area.

Could it be your specialized expertise? Or the many years of experience you have under your belt?

And then you also have your intangible qualities that make homeowners choose you over the competitors.

Maybe it's your commitment to exceptional customer service and satisfaction, where you go above and beyond to ensure the customers' needs are met and they feel understood and heard.
